Drawings from the Water’s Edge The Art of Christina Roberts
My series, Drawings from the Waters' Edge serves as a memory recording of my explorations near water. While exploring most places, my head is usually down, investigating what lies at my feet. The word “landscape” to me is not solely that grand vista often seen on the predictable postcard, rather, what I've trained my eye to see. These images are my personal landscapes.
Each piece is partially drawn from reference photos and from memory. Once I get a very loose sketch down, the photograph gets put away and the rest is memory and how my hand and head allow the work to evolve. In this series I have chosen to work in ink, using a stippling or pointillism technique. This process was chosen because although it is time consuming, it is meditative. The work from this series is part scientific, part fantasy, part memory and much is left to interpretation.
