Christina’s method of choice for blockprinting is
to use linoleum.
The linoleum is mounted to pressed board and various carving
tools are used to create the image. The surface that receives printing ink does not get carved away. Only the areas
that will not be colored are removed, in essence, working in the
negative. Once done, the block is rolled with printing ink by
brayer, placed on paper and rubbed. The print is then “hand
pulled” from the block unveiling the image. Christina prefers
to print on various hand-made archival papers. Since each print
is done by hand and both the ink and paper colors may vary, each
print is a unique and original piece of art.
